Blog : Week 366 Updates

Dear Rasikas,

August 30th 2009 - First Raga Surabhi update.

Today, 28th August 2016, we bring to you the Week 366 update!

Hard to believe that we have been on this musical quest for seven years! Isn't it? Did you realize that you have been participating in our quizzes for all these years? It is our pleasant duty to once again thank you for your untiring encouragement and participation and for those nice mails your often write :) Thank you rasikas around the world, you keep rocking!!!

We are happy to celebrate our seventh anniversary in style with the launch of a new segment titled 'Jathiswarams'. Jathiswarams are short compositions, containing only swaras or a combination of swaras and jathis. Unlike a Swarajathi, it does not have sahithyam. Jathiswarams are typically presented in Bharatanatyam recitals mainly to showcase the beauty and essence of rhythm in dance.

Uma's own composition, a Jathiswaram in raga Amrithavarshini, is the feature this week. How can you do a solo Jathiswaram when the focus is on the rhythm? :) Yes, you guessed it right!! Uma, Flute Vijay and Balakrishna team up to come up with this magical number that you must make time to listen to! We are pretty sure this is going to turn out to be your ear worm this week! This time around, we also have a real fun quiz compiled for our rasikas :)
Check it out here: 7 Years of Raga Surabhi: Fun with Raga Names

We are saving a part of the celebration for next week, until then get drenched and soaked in Amrithavarshini! And don't forget the quiz answers!

Have a great week!

Raga Surabhi Team.
